He made the Bible a close study for fifty years, was clerk of the Liberty Association ten years, was a plasterer, a paper hanger by trade, a farmer and superintendent of Sunday School for forty years. He went into the ministry in 1880 and was pastor of seven churches as follows: Icy Sink, 4 years; Blue Spring, 4 years; Caney Fork, 27 years, Jimtown, 28 years, Woodsonvile, 28 years; Pleasant Union 29 years; Glasgow Junct. 18 months and also at Munfordville. He baptized and added to churches over 1,500 souls. He preached more funerals and married more people than any minister in the Liberty Association. He also built 5 churches.
