Backroads of Barren County, KY, the newspaper articles of William Daniel Tolle, Sandra K. Gorin, Gorin Genealogical Publishing, copyright July 1991. By permission of the compilist. Not far below and on the west side of the Creek [Boyds Creek], and on the west side of the Gallatin and Pikeville road, stands the old residence of JAMES DODD, one of the first settlers of that section. Mr. Dodd raised a family of three girls and three boys. He was a slaveholder and owned several slaves and carried on farm work rather extensively. His daughter Helen married John Gorin; Betty married James Scrivener; don't remembr who his daughter Martha married. According to my recollection, his eldest son, William married a Miss Eubank. His second son, Thomas, never married. His third son, Robert, married a Miss Pare. All of Mr. Dodd's children have long since been dead, and I know of none of their descendants living in Barren County. [Helen Dodd married Dr. James W. Gorin, son of John and Elizabeth Franklin Gorin, not John Gorin as stated, skg]. As the creek descended below the James Dodd lands there lived in the long ago Brownings, Murrells, Scriveners, Mansfields, Kinslows, Adams and others I don't now remember. The first settlers are long dead and but a few of their descendants are to be found in that locality.
