Used by permission. [Beaver Creek area] THE BRYAN FAMILY. Below and adjoining this farm [Munday] a large body of land was settled in the long ago by James Bryan. He raised a family of three sons and one daughter. His eldest son James located in connection with Thomas J. Gorin. They sold goods for probably over a lifetime. Mr. Bryan was a very strict, steady and sedate man. He was honest and upright in all his dealings and had the utmost confidence of all who knew him. The general apellation applied to him was that of "judge." He went out of regular business several years before his death, and made his home with his nephew on upper Depot Street in Glasgow, in a large brick house which he had built many years before. At his death he was well advanced in years, nearing the hundred mark. Albert, the second son of James Sen., came in possession of the homestead, and lived there until his death at a ripe old age. He married Miss ELiza Settle, a daughter of Isaac Settle of Swearengen Creek. Five children were born to them and raised to manhood and womanhood. One of the girls married Ulinus Strater [sic] of Hiseville, another one married Dr. Thomas Wells. The husbands are both dead. The son James is our townsman familiarly called Jimmy. He has spent nearly all of his life in Glasgow. He as taken in the store by his uncle James at an early age, and has been connected with the mercantile business in some way or other pretty much ever since. He is regarded by those who know him as a strict upright Christian gentleman. He is a leading member of the Baptist church. Henry, the third son of James Bryan, Sen., married Caroline Settle, a daughter of Isaac Settle. He opened a large farm between his father's place and Swearengen Creek. He raised a large family of children. He has long since been dead, his farm passed into other hands, and now occupied by different persons. None of the children are owners of any portion of it. One girl is all I know of James Bryan, Sen., family. She married Solomon Quesenberry, a noted person of the above-named community.
