Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 3rd ed., 1886. Barren County. DR. SAMUEL T. BOTTS is a native of Adair County, Ky., and was born October 7, 1846. His father, Thompson Botts, was born in Culpeper County, Va., October 20, 1785. He was twice married; his first wife was a Miss Tutt, who left eight children; his second wife was Miss Elizabeth Moore, a daughter of Tandy Moore, a Virginian. Her death occurred in 1873; she was the mother of S. T. Botts and three daughters. Thompson Botts, a successful farmer, died in July, 1866; he was a man of considerable local prominence, and for many years held the office of magistrate of the district in which he resided. Samuel T. Botts was born and reared on a farm, received a fair common school education, and at the age of eighteen began the study of medicine with Dr. J. G. Taylor, of Columbia, Adair Co., Ky; he took a course of lectures in the University of Louisville in 1866-67; graduated from the Kentucky School of Medicine in 1868, and took the degree of Doctor of Medicine and Surgery. After ten years of successful practice he entered as a student [in] the Bellevue Hospital Medical College, and also the College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City; there he remained through the session of 1878-79, since which time the Doctor has been engaged in the practice of his profession in connection with the superintendendency of a small estate which he owns - "Woodland," which is one of the best improved in his section. He was married, in 1865, to Miss Georgie Carpenter. Her father, Andrew Carpenter, was born in Barren County, Ky., and her mother, Elizabeth (Bridgewater) Carpenter, was a native of Taylor County, Ky. To them have been born three sons: Andrew T., Willie E. and Jimmie W. Mrs. Botts is a lady of rare attainments, and like her husband, obtained a fair common school education, which, on account of the civil war, was not extended beyond the common schools of the vicinity of which she lived. She is a member of the Christian Church. The Doctor also, in early life, became a member of the same church; he is a Master Mason in H. B. Grant Lodge, No. 610. Politically he is a Democrat, but takes little interest in politics, his time being given to his profession and the improvement of the minds of his children. After his graduation Dr. Botts moved to the vicity of Dry Fork, Barren County, where he now resides.
