Marriage Records

FRANKLIN COUNTY MARRIAGE BONDS for years 1785-1865 are loose unbound documents. These records have been
microfilmed and are available at the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives. This microfilm was used
to obtain the information presented at this site.

The name of bride and groom was abstracted as it appears on the original document.  No attempt has been
made to correct the spelling accepted by today's standard.  Always check every spelling variation of

your surname.  Additional information such as; bondsman, parental consent, guardian and witness may
be available by viewing microfilm of the original marriage bond.

FRANKLIN COUNTY MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE, Books 1 thru 4 cover years 1827-1877 and are available on microfilm located at the
Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives.  Unlike the marriage bond a marriage certificate contains information about the
ceremony; when it took place and by whom.  A couple may have obtained their marriage bond in one county, but married elsewhere.
Bond date is included on some certificates; however, no loose bonds exist after 1865. Bonds are recorded in book form beginning
in 1878 with Marriage Book 5.

The microfilm for the marriage certificates is very light and difficult to read for some years.  In some cases names are
completely illegible.
No attempt has been made to correct the spelling accepted by today's standard.  Always check every spelling
variation of your surname.  The name of bride and groom was abstracted as it appears on the original document.  Additional information
such as; name of minister and place marriage was performed may be available by viewing microfilm of the original document.
