Built 1844

When William R. Snyder purchased 35 feet here "next to Haller's lot" in 1844 from John McMurtry, he immediately mortgaged the property, "containing one house and lot," showing that McMurtry had built the house for him before making the sale.

Snyder and wife, Eliza, sold the house in 1845 to Nathaniel and Hiram Shaw.

The real estate "belonging to Hiram Shaw and his late partner in business, Nathaniel Shaw" was divided in 1849 and this house went to Hiram Shaw.

It is known as the "Shepherd House," as John Shepherd later bought and occupied it for several years. Wm. Luxon had owned it prior to this time, however.
