James Halliday House , Lexington, Fayette, Kentucky

JAMES HALLIDAY HOUSE

526 S. Upper St., Lexington, Fayette County, Kentucky
Built 1838

James Halliday, who married a daughter of John Ingles, bought one of the twin brick houses here from John Provost in March, 1847. The deed described it as Lot. No. 13, conveyed to Provost in 1846 by James W. Cook and Peter Johnson.

Cook and Johnson had just bought it from Edwin Stephens and wife, Sarah.

"James Halliday, Miller, east side Upper between Pine and Cedar" was the way his residence here was listed in 1859-60.

(Edwin Stephens inherited both houses from his father, Luther Stevens. The date they were built is told in the story of No. 530--Janett Ingles House).
