HENRY GILBERT HOME

N. Broadway, Lexington, Fayette County, Kentucky
Built 1835

Source: Old Houses of Lexington, C. Frank Dunn, typescript, n.d., copy located in the Kentucky Room, Lexington (Kentucky) Public Library.

Henry Gilbert purchased a 42 foot lot here in August 1835, from the Bank of Kentucky, the deed to this and 42 feet adjoining in 1838 saying "now in the occupancy of said Gilbert." So that puts the house in the "Century Class."

Deeds to the corner property mentioned that this house was "owned and occupied by Henry Gilbert," in 1836, 1840 and 1857.

John Holmes evidently built the house for Gilbert, and accepted adjoining property in payment, according to the consideration named.

(3rd house from N.W. corner 3rd & Broadway) (Harry McAdams res.)
