This cemetery consists of only one grave and
is located on top of the mountain directly across the creek
(Beech Creek) from the mouth of the Hubbard Hollow. Older
family members explain that the reason he is buried on top of the
mountain relates to the weather conditions at the time of his
death. Apparently the area had experienced heavy rains for
several days prior to his death. The creek was running very
high.
Attempts were made to dig a grave at the
family cemetery several hundred yards away but the
grave filled with water. This attempt was repeated several
times at nearby locations and there were again water problems.
So the decision was made to place the grave on top of the
mountain and as close as possible to the home.
