James A. Porter (on right horse), Roy Jarvis (standing) and Mr. Cooper (on left horse)

Photo submitted by: Mike Barker

James A. Porter was a brother-in-law to Roy Jarvis.

Roy Jarvis was the son of Flem and Rebecca (Phillips) Jarvis.

James A. "J.A" Porter was married to Flem's dau. Minnie.

If you look at the Olive Hill Attorneys picture, the man identified as Jim Porter is the same man.
James A. Porter's father was Levi Porter. Levi's father was A. J. Porter.

I talked with James A. Porter's daughter Irene Keeney on the phone in 1980. She told me the following about her dad...

"He taugh Higher Mathematics at Marshall College in Huntington, WV

As an attorney, he once defended a man accused of murder.
He sent a petition to the governor who granted the man parole. It was a landmark Case.

He was at one time superintendent of Carter county Schools."

James A. Porter with son Estill Porter (1902-1910) and Roy Jarvis.

James A. Porter

James A. Porter seated with bow tie. His wife Minnie Jarvis Porter beside him and son Estill Porter (1902-1910) beside her.

Standing with bow in hair is Lula (Porter) Roberts (1877-1915) daughter of Levi Porter & Betty Lundy.

I think this picture was 1903 based on the age of the son Estill Porter.

Lula Porter Roberts married George Roberts in 1904 and moved to Antigo, Wisconsin.

James A. Porter is in that 1920 group picture of Olive Hill attorneys.
