"Martine (Sturgill) James is the correct name. She was born a Sturgill. After her father died her mother married James Barker, but she was not a Barker.
Her father was Charles Sturgill, and her mother was Bethel Brown Sturgill. Bethel married James Barker after the death of her first husband,
but they did not have any children."

Martine “Teenie” James - 1937-2007 Martine “Teenie” James, 69, of Grahn, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday afternoon, July 14, 2007, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell. Mrs. James was born Oct. 3, 1937, in Grahn, a daughter of the late Charlie Andrew and Bethel Brown Sturgill Barker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth Wade Sturgill, Charles Alcus Sturgill and Donald Sturgill; and a sister, Vandetta Cox. Martine was a faithful Christian for more than 50 years and was a founding member of Grahn Hill Freewill Baptist Church. She was a volunteer at the Grahn Community Center and a member of the Grahn Community Center Red Hat Society. She was employed at the former Ben Franklin Store in Olive Hill, as a teacher’s aide in the Carter County School District, and later as a postal clerk, having retired from the U.S. Postal Service. Her greatest joy was her faith in the Lord and cooking and baking for her grandchildren. She loved spending time with her family and all her special Grahn “girlfriends.” She was thankful for every day of life the Lord granted her and joyfully sang and testified of His blessings on her life. She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Willie Gene James; a daughter and son-in-law, Andrea Beth James and Bill Lewis of Grayson; a son and daughter-in-law, Jason Willie and Crystal James of Grahn; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Eloise Vowels of Louisville, Linda and Claude Valandingham of Olive Hill, Susie and Donnie Parker of Grahn and Treva and C.J. Barker of Olive Hill; four special grandchildren, William Andrew Lewis, Brittany Gene Lewis, Hanalena Teres James and Caleb Grant Willie James; and several nieces and nephews who dearly loved their “Aunt Teenie.” Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2007, at Globe Funeral Home in Olive Hill with Brother Jimmy Barker and Brother Chris Russell officiating. Burial will be in Biggs Hill Cemetery in Olive Hill. Friends may call after 6 p.m. today and until services Tuesday at the funeral home.
