Jerry Sparks




MANSFIELD -- Jerry Sparks, 72, died Thursday, June 17, 2004, at Cleveland Clinic Foundation after a short illness. 

He was born May 28, 1932, in Carter County, Kentucky to Andrew and Blanche Gearhart Sparks, living in the Mansfield area most of his life. Jerry retired after 26 years as a brick maker at Richland Shale Brick Yard. 

He was a member of Venus Lodge #152 F. & A.M. and Scottish Rite, Valley of Canton, and was a member of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the National Guard, Company E, 149th Infantry RCT. 

Jerry loved his family and spending time with his special group of coffee buddies. 

Jerry is survived by his wife of 52 1/2 years, Edith Clotene Wagoner Sparks, whom he married Nov. 9, 1951; a son, Allen Ray Sparks of Olive Hill, Ky.; four daughters and their spouses, Linda Sue and Nicholas Sokoloski of Berlin Heights, Deborah Ann and Menzo Cooper of Litchfield, Karen Marie Cooper and Theresa Lynn Williams, both of Mansfield; 11 grandchildren, Andy, Amy, Alex, Rebecca Ann, Christene, Crystal, Kandice, Kacie, Michelle and Tosha; seven great-grandchildren, Katie, Sierra, Robert III, Bink, Tyler, Donovin, MacKenzie; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ronnie Jr. Sparks; grandson, Joey; sister, Louella; and four brothers, Gene, Vernon, JoeAndy and James Colby. 

Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors Sunday, June 20, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Private Masonic services will be held Sunday at 8:30 p.m. Funeral services, conducted by Harold Lunsford, will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Private military graveside services will be held in Franklin Cemetery.
