Roland Royster Jr. (1937-2006)

Mr. Roland Royster Jr., 69, of Portsmouth, Ohio, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006, at the residence of his son in Lucasville, Ohio. He was born in Greenup County, Ky., on May 29, 1937, a son of the late Roland Rister and Mintha Marlowe Rister.

He was a retired construction worker and a member of the Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Sweeney Royster, on April 14, 2006; four brothers, Floyd Royster, Luther Rister, Leroy Rister and Ithel Rister; and two sisters, Edith Horsley and Imogene Kiser.

Surviving are three sons, Sid Royster of Lucasville, Madison Royster of Coal Grove, Ohio, and Phillip Royster of Jasper, Ohio; one daughter, Tammy Nichols of Ypsilanti, Mich.; two sisters, Hazel Zornes of Grayson, Ky., and Marie Rister of Florida; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2006, at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore, Ky., with Larry Barrell officiating. Burial will be in Grizzell Cemetery on Tick Ridge in Garrison, Ky.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. until the service hour Tuesday at the funeral home.
