Rev. Grady Gene Moretz, Sr.

Rev. Grady Gene Moretz, Sr., 62, of Olive Hill, Ky., a native and former resident of Watauga County, died September 28, 2005, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 8, 1942, in Boone, to the late William Henry and Myrtle Annie Winebarger Moretz.

Rev. Moretz was owner and operator of B and G Lumber Company for many years. He served as associate pastor of Spirit and Life Bible Church in Elkton, Md., for 12 years and was a member of New Hope Community Church in Olive Hill.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Deserae Bobbitt Moretz; two sons, Grady Gene Moretz, Jr. and wife, Cathy, and Bobby Moretz and wife, Krista; and one daughter, Marsha Lynn Sarver, all of Elkton, Md.; nine grandchildren, Erin Moretz Russell, Erica Moretz, Ashley, Hannah and Christian Sarver, Ethan Leidy, Michael Moretz, Kristie Mikus and Byron Fitzwater; three brothers, Luther Moretz of Elkton, Mack Moretz of Lenoir and Earl Moretz of West Virginia; five sisters, Mrs. Edith Duncan of Cleveland, Ohio; Mrs. Sue Addicott of Brunswick, Ohio; Mrs. Martha Shaffer of Bobtown, Pa.;  Mrs. Roxie Broomwell of Oxford, Pa. and Mrs. Cynthia Austin of Lenoir. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews and a number of cousins, including Milton Moretz, Flavel Eggers and Treva Castle, all of Boone.

Services were conducted Oct. 1 at New Hope Community Church, officiated by Pastor Eddie Porter and Pastor Rudy Reed. Burial followed in Olive Hill Memory Gardens.

Globe Funeral Home in Olive Hill, Ky., was in charge of arrangements.
