David Owen Layne, 64, of Route 3, Olive Hill, died Wednesday in the St. Claire Medical Center in Morehead, following a long illness.

Mr. Layne was born Nov. 22, 1925, in Carter County, a son of the late Vasco and Nannie Layne.

He was a retired employee of General Refractories Co. in Olive Hill, a World War II veteran and a member of the Ross Chapel Christian Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Christine Patton Layne; a daughter, Debbie Lawson of Olive Hill; a son, David Jeffrey Layne of Olive Hill; 
two brothers, Roger layne of Olive Hill and Skip Layne of Paintsville; four sisters, Vivian Rainbolt of Louisville, Joyce Irland of Stowe, Ohio, 
Linda Maggard of Richmond and Genny Molton of Olive Hill; four grandchildren; and five step grandchildren.

The funeral was conducted Saturday at the Oney Funeral Home in Olive Hill by Eddie Porter and Richard Allen Short, ministers. 

Burial was in the Erwin Cemetery, near Olive Hill.
