John William “Bill” Kemper (1928-2006)

Bill Kemper, 78, of Ashland, Ky., formerly of Westwood, Ky., died Tuesday evening at his home following a sudden illness. 

He was born April 8, 1928, in Grayson, Ky., a son of the late Willie and Ida Floyd Kemper. 

Bill was of the Baptist Faith and retired from the shipping department at Armco Steel Corp. He was a member of Elwood Stringer American Legion Post of Flatwoods, AMVETS, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and Elks Lodge 350 of Ashland. 

Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, was a son, Steve Kemper, in 2001. 

Surviving are three sons, Tim Kemper and his wife, Kathy, of Catlettsburg, Ky., Tony Kemper and his wife, Pam, of South Point, Ohio, and Jeff Kemper and his wife, Pam, of Ironton, Ohio; a daughter, Vicki and her husband, Jon Clark, of Westwood; a sister, Betty and her husband, Jim Martin, of Grayson; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland by Pastor James Wells. Burial will be in Smith-Claxton Cemetery. 

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
