      Joe W. Johnson, 64, of Grayson, Ky., former Carter County judge and brother of a Zanesville woman died March 6 at University Hospital in Lexington 
      after a short illness, it was learned here Wednesday. 

      Judge Johnson was born March 31, 1909 in Carter County a son of Steel and Dora Conley Johnson. 

      He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Grayson, the Masonic Lodge, Elhasa Shrine Temple of Grayson and was a 33rd degree Mason. 

      He served for eight years as a county judge, was a Democratic chairman for two years, served on the board of directors 
      at the Grayson First National Bank and was a Navy veteran of World War II. 

      Surviving are his widow, Nancy; two daughters, Mrs. Carol Chestnut of Amesville and Miss Sally Johnson of the home; three grandchildren 
      and two sisters, Miss Pauline Rood of 56 Pine Street and Mrs. Lottie Flynn of Niles. 

      Funeral service and burial were in Grayson.
