Henderson, 82 EAST LIVERPOOL - Quenton Edward “Doc” Henderson, 82, of East Liverpool, formerly of Irondale, died Friday, October 27, 2006, at Nentwick Convalescent Home. He was born May 21, 1924, in Olive Hill, Ky., a son of the late Jess and Emma (Johnson) Henderson. Quenton graduated from Irondale High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater as a Commander of a tank destroyer during World War II where he was awarded two bronze stars. He was a member of the Irondale United Methodist Church where he served on the pulpit committee, finance committee, and was a member of the adult Sunday School class. He was proud to be a 50 year member of the Jenkins Lodge 471 F & AM as well as past patron of the Irondale Order of the Eastern Star. Quenton enjoyed his roles as member, past president, and treasurer of the Ruritans. He was also a member of the Wellsville Elks Lodge 1040, Toronto VFW Post 6906, and was a life member of the Ohio Public Employees Inc. He was mayor of the village of Irondale for five terms and helped form the first fire department where he also served as treasurer. Before his military service Quenton worked in the steel mill in Toronto. Afterward he worked for 16 years as sales manager for the former Golden Star Dairy in East Liverpool. Quenton and his wife Jane founded Henderson’s Valley Market in Hammondsville in 1970 and operated it until retiring in 1985. During this time he also served as superintendent of the Highway Department for Jefferson County. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Jane E. (Gill) Henderson, whom he married August 10, 1944; one daughter: Jane Blanchard of Salineville; one son: Richard S. Henderson and his wife Sue of Carrollton. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Kelly Blanchard of Cincinnati, Jennifer Blanchard of Rochester, N.Y., Andrew Blanchard of Minerva, Jess and Kady Henderson of Carrollton, sister-In-law Janet Blakeley of Salem and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Quenton was preceded in death by a brother, Elwood “Tub” Henderson. The Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Roberts Funeral Home with Paul Weaver officiating. Burial will follow in Chestnut Grove Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main Street in Wellsville where a Masonic service will be observed at 7 p.m. The family requests that memorial tributes take the form of donations to the Irondale United Methodist Church or E.D.I.S. “Sheltered Workshop” client council at 15529 Sprucevale Road, East Liverpool, Ohio 43920.
