Kentucky GenWeb projectJohn Floyd John Floyd, 86, of Ashland, Ky., was called home Thursday, April 8, 2004, to be at peace and rest in the arms of our Heavenly Father. He lost his battle to cancer but has gained a heavenly home. He was the son of the late George and Emma Elliott Floyd of Grayson, Ky. Also preceding him in death were an infant two-year-old son, John Darrell Floyd; a daughter, Joyce Ann Floyd Boggs; three brothers, Clyde, Lonnie and Leonard Floyd; and one sister, Eva Lena Floyd Wilburn. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Virginia Belle Ferrell Floyd; one daughter, Janet (Gerald) Stewart; and one son, Woodrow (Gloria Barker) Floyd, all of Ashland; one son-in-law, Roy R. (Sally) Boggs of Ironton, Ohio; three granddaughters, Cheri (David) Hunnicutt of Argillite, Ky., Aimee (Tim) Aldridge of Ironton and Sarah Floyd of Ashland; two great-grandchildren, Amber (Mike) Bell of Ashland and Peyton Andrew Aldridge of Ironton; one great-great-grandchild, Branden Tyler Bell of Ashland; three sisters, Edna Stapleton of Ashland, Betty Stevens of Wayne, Mich., and Ruby (Al) Simon of Upper Sandusky, Ohio; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was a member of Cannonsburg First Baptist Church. He was a retiree of National Miines Service Co., where he worked in the electrical shop. A World War II Army veteran, which he served with the Battery A, 124th Field Artillery Battalion in Japan, he was a qualified rifle marksman. He received several decorations and citations including American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and World War II Victory Ribbon. He was a 32nd degree Mason with the Rush Masonic Lodge, was a Kentucky colonel, and was a registered Native American with the ETOWAH Tribe of the Cherokee Nation, Cleveland, Tenn. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 12, 2004, at Lazear Funeral Home Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Stan Williams and the Rev. Larry Garvin. Burial will be in Kirby Flats Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, April 11, 2004, at the funeral home.
