Gladys Griffith (1927-2007)

Gladys Griffith, 80, of Grayson, passed away Sunday, July 15, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

She was born April 4, 1927, in Carter County, a daughter of the late George Washington Burton and Elsie Hall Burton.

Gladys was the wife of Walter Griffith, a homemaker and a member of Crane Creek Missionary Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, Walter, she is survived by her four daughters, Phyllis (Don) Penrod of Columbus, Ohio, 
Patricia Goebel of Grayson, Tempest (Jamie) Flaugher, also of Grayson, and Bobbie (Glen) Ison of Fultz; 
her five sons, Walter “Junior” (Hester) Griffith of Columbus, Tim (Rita) Griffith of Sandy Hook, George (Inez) Griffith, 
Charlie (Sharon) Griffith and Donald (Debra) Griffith and a very special friend, Paul Kawada, all of Grayson; 18 grandchildren; 
three stepgrandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; 
and her two sisters, Edna Smith of Greenup County and Julia Meade of Marion, Ohio.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Randy Griffith; her two sisters, Lottie Bucher and Mary Brown; 
and her brothers, Jim, Clifford, Curt and Sam Burton.

Funeral services for Mrs. Griffith will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson. 
Glen Stephenson and Ron Arnett will officiate. She will be laid to rest in East Carter County Memory Gardens.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today, July 17, at the funeral home.

The following friends will be pallbearers for Mrs. Griffith: Paul Kawada, Barry, Brent and Josh Griffith, Don Penrod, Lafe Flaugher, 
Todd “Rudy” Burchett, Michael Miller and Dr. David Goebel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice, 1538 Central Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.
