CHRISTMAS EVE 1944 Pvt. Clyde Barker, Olive Hill, Ky., former 36th division rifleman, was a prisoner of war in southern Germany. Captured in France in August, 1944, he was working on a German farm on Christmas Eve. He says: "They made us cut timber for the farmer. On Christmas Eve I was hauling a wagon load from the forest. Back in our room they put the lights out at 9 o'clock, but we kept on talking, rather quietly, in the darkness. They didn't let us sing."
