BOYDE CITY CEMETERY, WISE CO., TEXAS

"Since they were born in Carter County to an old Carter County family I thought you might want these tombstone photo's for your records."

Thomas D. Zornes (Zorns) was born on November 5, 1842 in Carter County, Kentucky.
He was the son of Martin Zornes and Lucinda Horsley, who were married in Carter County on August 12, 1839.

Thomas first married Rachael Mariah McGinnis on June 14, 1866 in Carter Co. Ky.
They had one son, Thomas D. Zornes before Rachael's death on August 14, 1871.
Sherry Lowe reports that Rachael is buried in an unmarked grave in the Horsley Cemetery in Carter County.

Thomas then married Josephie "Josie" Skeens.

They were still living in Carter County at the time of the 1880 census but were in Boyd, Wise County, Texas by 1900.

Both Thomas and his wife Josephine are buried in the city cemetery in Boyd.

Thomas D. Zornes served in the 20th Kentucky Regiment and did receive a pension for his service after he was living in Texas.

Their last child born in Kentucky in 1884 was Effie. Based on where their land was located during that time period her birth was probably
on Buffalo Fork and not far from Iron Hill. Effie died at Brinkman in 1929 and is listed in the Brinkman Cemetery shown on the same Greer Co. site.
The following link shows a picture of her: Effie Zorns, Greer County, Oklahoma

Thomas was first married to Rachel Maria/Mariah McGinnes.
