Carter County Cemetery Preservation and Maintenance
Campbel Cemetery directions and description
My maternal grandparents, Millard and Cora Campbell, are buried in a family cemetery, which is no longer used for burials,
on the north side of the rest area, wesbound lanes, of I-64, near Grayson. When the interstate took the farm there then
access was cut off to the cemetery. The only access now is a rough path from the opposite side from my uncle's farm,
Walter Campbell. The children never really developed alternate access to allow perpetual care there. The cemetery is on
the property of Jack Suttles now. The Suttles, Campbell's, and other extended family are buried there. There is another
adjacent cemetery where the Goble's are buried. I am planning on organizing our relatives and have a meeting to elect
officers and mobilize funds, labor, and materials to eventually provide vehicle access to the cemetery. Our first step
will be to talk to the landowner who also has relatives buried there. We had hoped to apply for grant money to supplement
our efforts.
