Tygarts Creek Trail
Olive Hill
Contemporaneous reports tell us that the raiding party
escaped to Tygarts Creek, at which point they divided,
with one group tracking Tygarts Creek downsteam to
the north and the Ohio River, while the other party
proceded east and tracked the Little Sandy River
north to the Ohio.
The Tygarts Creek was a well-used and efficient
route to and from central Ohio and eastern Kentucky.
The Little Sandy had the disadvantage of joining
with the Ohio some 30 miles east of the Scioto River.
The most likely route between the Tygarts Creek and the
Little Sandy River is the channel of Big Sinking Creek.
At Olive Hill, the distance between the two water ways
is measured in hundreds of yards, and once oriented,
the route is quite direct and easily traversed.
