Salem's 90th Anniversary Celebration

 The ninetieth anniversary services of the organization of this church are to be commemorated from May 15-22. The pastor is John R. Creamer, who is serving his fourth year. The morning sermon on May 15 will be delivered by the Rev Dr. John G. Schall, during whose pastorate the present church building was erected in 1883. At the Founders Day service Sunday afternoon, May 15, the tribute will be given by the Rev. Dr. C. B. Koch, who was pastor in 1908. The Aldersgate communion service will be held Sunday evening, with the district superintendent, E. D. Edelmaier, giving the message. On Wednesday evening a service will be devoted to the ministerial sons of Salem Church. The tribute will be given by Dr. F. T. Enderis; tribute also will be given to Miss Louise Rothweiler, missionary to Korea.

 The sermon will be delivered by the Rev Bruce Wendt. Thursday evening will be devoted to the historical exhibit and church anniversary dinner, with address by Mrs. Howard Wiebe, president of the Ladies Aid Society. The Newport Ministerial Association will conduct the services on Thursday evening with addresses by the Rev E,. J. Hotz, the Rev. E. P. Vogel, and Mr. Henry M. Zimmerman. The Korea Society will give a golden jubilee program on Friday evening with an historical sketch by Miss Louise L. Knoop, and address by Mrs. Frank T. Enderis. The recognition of charter members, memorial service, and the recognition of new members and departments will be followed by an address by Mr. Hal J. Weigle.

On Sunday morning, May 22, Bishop H. Lester Smith will deliver the sermon. At the evening service, an Aldersgate anniversary pageant will be given by the Epworth Forum, entitled, "The Eternal Flame".  Salem Church was organized in 1847 by pioneer members and the first services were held in homes.  In 1854 a lot was purchased and a new brick structure was erected. The present building was completed on June 24, 1883. Thirty-five pastors have served the church since its organization.
