DEATH AGAIN VISITS FT THOMAS
These are solemn, quiet day at Ft Thomas, days when all that can be done is to give the best care possible to the sick and leave the rest to Providence. A number of the patients in the hospital are in a very serious condition, nearly all of them haveing typhoid fever and may of them have aggravated cases. Two men were reported dead last evening, both of the having succumbed to the ravages of the dread disease.
Roland A Johnson, of Company I, First New Hampshire Volunteers and William H Pingel, Company F Second Wisconsin Volunteers are their names. In the afternoon the slow procession moved from the post toward Evergreen Cemetery, where both funerals were held. The relatives of Johnson had not notified the authorities of any intention to transport the soldier's body to his New England home, and he was buried with military honors.
The relatives of Pingel, who live in Oshkosh Wis. telegraphed that they would come on for the remains of the dead soldier and accordingly the body was placed in the vault to await the arrival of the relatives.
