Robert Saner was born Ruben Saner in Buesserach, Switzerland. His birth date has some discrepancies. He was either born May 13, 1846 (per the church records there) or April 1843 from the US census records. His parents were Christian Saner and Marie Bohrer. The family spelled the last name several ways: Saner , Sahner or Zahner. Robert was mainly a farmer, but had a saloon, choice wines, liquors and cigars in Newport in 1890-2. He died in Sept. 1919.

4-Serafina Saner; b-Nov. 24, 1847; died Dec. 11, 1849.

Robert emigrated to the US in 1848 according to the 1910 US Census.

Robert was married three times.

He first married Sally Rohman before 1864. Sally was born in 1846. She died in 1870 and is buried at St Joseph Cemetery, Wilder. She was originally buried at the Corpus Cemetery near Frederick’s landing but was moved when that cemetery was closed.

1-Robert (Ruben) Jr.; b-1864 in Kentucky; Died in 1882. He’s buried at St Joseph Cemetery, Wilder. He was a laborer
2. John J. Saner; b-about 1866 in Kentucky; He married Carrie Betsch on Sept. 28, 1892 at St Stephens Church. They had 4 children. He died in 1909.
3. Elizabeth "Lizzie" Saner; b-March 18, 1869 in John’s Hill. (baptized at Corpus Christi Church on June 27, 1869). Married Ironton Morgan about 1896. Three children. Died Sept. 6, 1936. Buried Evergreen Cem.

After Sally died in 1870, Robert married Anastasia or Anna Schobel (1844-1879) between 1869 and 1871. Anastasia died in 1879 from "heart disease" not long after having her fifth child. She’s buried at St Joseph, Wilder.

1-William; b-Jan. 30, 1872; baptized at St john the Baptist Church, Wilder on Feb. 16, 1873). Married Mary Louise Schwaibold/Federle on Feb. 21, 1898 at St Stephens. Died Oct. 8, 1940 in Newport. He was a barber. Three children. Buried St Stephens. My great grandfather.
2. Helena "Lena"; b-about 1874; Married Daniel Shea about 1894. Two sons. Died March 17, 1915 from chronic bronchitis. Buried St Stephens.
3. Louisa; b-May 19, 1876 at Cold Spring, Ky; baptized at St Joseph Church, Cold Spring on May 28, 1876. She married John Steffen. Died Jan. 25, 1942.
4. Anna Maria; b-Jan. 25, 1878; baptized March 10, 1878 at St Joseph Church, Cold Spring; Married Fred G. Pearman on Feb. 8, 1897; She died Nov. 7, 1955 in Kenton County. Buried Evergreen Cem.
5. Johanna; b-June 24, 1879; baptized July 13, 1879 at St Joseph Cold Spring; Listed as Honey in the 1880 census. Her mother died soon after her birth. She was given to her aunt Veronica Saner & her husband Joseph Ritzi to raise. She married George Dunn on Sept. 19, 1899 at Corpus Christi Church. They had 11 children together. She died April 3, 1935 from a cerebral hemorrhage & diabetes. Buried at Evergreen Cemetery.

Robert then married Louise Sprau on Feb. 1, 1881 at St Joseph Church, Cold Spring, Louise died Feb. 1929 as is buried at St Joseph Cemetery, Wilder.

Christopher Raymond; b-Oct 20, 1881; baptized Dec. 18, 1881 at St Joseph Church, Cold Spring; Married Lucy Huber on Oct.24, 1906 at St Joseph Church, Cold Spring; 7 children; Died Oct. 1945 from a skull fracture and compound fractures of right tibia & fibula; Buried St Joseph Cemtery, Cold Spring.

    2. Adam; born Oct. 29, 1882; baptized Dec. 3, 1882 at St Joseph Church, Cold Spring; Married Josephine Koleuske in Campbell County around 1910. 10 children.

    3. Joseph; b-March 27, 1887; baptized June 26, 1887 at St Joseph Church, Cold Spring; died Sept. 8, 1891; Buried St Joseph Cemetery, Wilder

ROBERT SANER DEAD

Robert Saner, pioneer and farmer of Campbell County, KY died at his home, near Pool's Creek, Licking Pike, aged 76 years. He was grandfather of Harry Knarr, party recorder of Newport. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock at St Joseph's Church, Cold Spring, followed by interment in the St Joseph's Cemetery at John's Hill

SANER RITES WEDNESDAY

Funeral services for Mrs. Louise Saner, 76, who died Sunday at her home on Licking Pike, Campbell County, will be conducted Wednesday, 2 PM from her late home. Burial will be in the John's Hill Protestant Cemetery. Mrs. Saner was the widow of Robert Saner, well known Campbell County farmer, who died 12 years ago. She was born in Germany, but had been a resident of Campbell -co for the past 50 years. She is survived by two sons, Adam and Christopher, both of Licking Pike
