On August 26, 1833 in the court of Campbell County, Kentucky, the said pensioner, Peter Mason, appeared in open court and testified on oath that he was at the age of 69 years on August 22 of the year 1833. He stated and swore that he entered the service of his country in the year 1778 as a volunteer when he was at the age of 14 years. He said that on that tour of duty he served for at least 3 years.

The said pensioner also stated and swore that after the peace was concluded, he went to sea and continued at sea for about 7 years. He then returned to the state of Virginia. He has been born August 22, 1764 in Lancaster County, Virginia and he resided in that place when he was called into the service. He stated that from there he went to sea as aforesaid, then returned to the state of Virginia. About 20 years ago he came to the state of Kentucky. He was a volunteer during all the time of his services, and he never received a copper for his pay.

The affidavit of John Stevens, a clergyman and Joseph Tarvin, was also given at the same time and the same place as the foregoing. The said deponents stated and swore that the said pensioner was at the age he had stated, and they further certified as to the good character of the said applicant, Peter Mason. At that time the clerk of the above named court was William A Pendleton and the clerk of the county court was John Taliaferro.

On September 18, 1839 in Jay County, Illinois, the said applicant, Peter Mason, again appeared in open court for the purpose of asking for a transfer of his pension payment from the state of Kentucky to the state of Indiana. He stated that the reason for his removal from the said state of Kentucky to the state of Indiana was that he lost his companion and his children had removed to the state of Indiana and he wished to be with them.

The following was found in the covering jacket. Indiana #25472 Peter Mason of Campbell County in the state of Kentucky, who was a private in the company under the command of Captain Tuning of the regiment under the command of Colonel ----- in the line of the state of Virginia for one year. Inscribed on the roll of the state of Kentucky at the rate of $40 per annum to commence March 4, 1831. Certificate of pension was issued January 13, 1833 and it was then sent to the Honorable R M Johnson.
