THE DURKINS OF CAMPBELL COUNTY

In County Sligo, Ireland, eight known children were born to Patrick and Ann Walsh Durkin. At the turn of the 20th century, seven of those children, four sons and three daughters, immigrated to the United States and settled in Newport, Kentucky.

JOHN R. (sic) WALSH

John R. Walsh, 65 [sic], 540 East Second street [sic], Newport, will be buried Thursday in St. Stephen Cemetery, Ft. Thomas, following service at the residence and requiem mass in Immaculate Conception Church at 9 a.m.

An employee of the Newport Rolling Mill for many years, Walsh had been connected with the Music Hall Theater, Newport, for the past few years. He died Monday night at his home a victim of the heat wave.

Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Bridget Durkin Walsh; three daughters, Mrs. Ben Groeschen, Southgate, Mrs. Catherine Nolte, Bellevue, and Miss Helen Walsh; and two sons, William and John Walsh, Jr. both of Newport. Services were arranged by William C. Betz Sons.

Michael Durkin, 74, of 342 E. Second street, Newport, died Thursday at his home. He was a retired freight handler for the Pennsylvania Railroad. Mr. Durkin was born in Ireland and had lived 50 years in Bellevue and Newport. He was a member of Holy Name Society of the Church of Immaculate Conception, Newport.

He leaves his widow, Mary; two sons, John of Covington and Michael Durkin, Jr., Newport; 2 daughters Mrs. Mary Dreyer and Miss Margaret Durkin, Newport; two brothers Patrick and James Durkin, Newport, and six granddaughters. Requiem High Mass will be sung at 9:00 am Monday at the Church of Immaculate Conception following prayers at 8:30 am at Vonderhaar and Stetter funeral home, Newport. Services for Jeremiah Durkin Set for Monday

Funeral services for Jeremiah Durkin, 52, employee of the Pennsylvania Railroad, will be held Monday at 8:30 a.m. from the residence, 609 Oak street [sic], Newport. Requiem high mass will be intoned at 9 a.m. at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, with burial in St. Stephen Cemetery, Ft. Thomas.

Durkin died Friday afternoon in Speers Hospital, Dayton, Ky., as the result of injuries suffered when he fell at his home. It was said he suffered a skull fracture. He had resided in Newport for many years and was a member of Church of the Immaculate Conception. Durkin leaves his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Durkin, five children, Frances Mary (sic), Anthony, John and Timothy Durkin; four brothers, James, Michael, Patrick and Thomas Durkin of Ireland [sic], and two sisters, Mrs. Katherine Dearing and Mrs. Beatrice Walsh. John M. Durkin

John M. Durkin, 60, Grand Towers, Newport, died at 10:30 p.m. Monday at St. Luke Hospital. He had lived at 433 E. Fifth street (sic), Newport, until several months ago. Retired assembler for Kiefer Machine Co., Cincinnati. Survivors: Wife, Mrs. Della (Dee) Donnellan Durkin; two daughters, Mrs. Rita Parnell, Mishawaka, Ind., and Mrs. Carol Miller, Crestview.

Also sister, Mrs. Mary Kroger, Ft. Thomas, and three brothers, Anthony, Newport; Timothy, Ft. Thomas, and Frank Durkin, Crestview Hills. A son, the late Jerry Durkin, FBI agent, was killed in a New Jersey auto accident several years ago.
