From the Virginia Land Grants Jillson Vol 1 page 87; Hugh Mercer Heirs 5000 Acres Book 1 page 354, 9 May 1774
Extending along the Ohio River from Locust Creek (Wells Creek) now 12 Mile Creek to Selma or 4 Mile Creek. Deed Book E page 322 indicates that Hancock Taylor, Abraham Haptonstall and Hancock Lee located and surveyed this tract for Hugh Mercer and received 1/5 or 1000 Acres for their service. This Deed is conveying 407 acres the interest of Hancock Lee to James Taylor thru John Mercer. It appears by Kentucky Historical Society Vol 23-5236, Survey 12 Nov 1784, surveys page 108 that John F Mercer had title to the 1000 acres of the above interests. Deed Book F, page 11 also conveys Hancock Lee's interest in the 407 Acres to James Taylor.

Group Book 322 & 327 are along the Ohio River from Oneonta north thru 10 Mile Station and towards Ross.
Group Book 229 on the South Side of 12 Mile and extending South toward California.
It appears from the above that Cincinnati & SE RR, Newport & Maysville RR, & Maysville & Big Sandy RR were acquiring Rights of Ways in 1881. Contracting & Bldg Co were building the RR in 1886 and it was the C&O in 1895.
