Mentor History

From 1908 until 1926, Mentor School was a one room building.  Located across the railroad tracks off Highway 8 in the Junior Order Masons Building, it served as the town's school until A J Jolly was built.

Mentor was incorporated on October 1, 1957 as an effort by its residents to gain some zoning control over their area.  The Eastern Campbell County Fire Department is located in the Mentor area on Smith Road, and is the youngest fire department in Campbell County. It was organized early in 1964.  Some of the first firefighters and chiefs include, Bob Moore, Matt Franck, Bill Edwards, Jim Sigafoose, Richard McCormick, Peter Dougherty, and Greg Schultz.   Mentor has a population of 170.
