NEWPORT
Among those killed in the Black Hills party under the command of
Colonel L P Stone, was John A West, a brother of W K West of this city, and for
many years order clerk at Merriam's drugstore in Cincinnati.
Mr. West served throughout the late war as hospital steward of the Sixth Ohio and made a very honorable record. He had lived in Newport but a year or so before leaving on the ill fated expedition.
