Jim Reis

Author of Pieces of the Past-Volume I, II, III & IV

Seven generations of the Reis family have called Northern Kentucky home, scouting rabbits and local history in the Campbell County hills. Jim was born in Ft. Thomas and attended Ft. Thomas elementary and high school. Newspapers fascinated him. He had a paper route and on vacations his souvenirs were newspapers from every city the family visited.

After graduating from high school, he started working full time for the Kentucky Post as a clerk while he attended college in the evenings. He was promoted to reporter in 1972 and graduated from Thomas More College two years later. Jim started writing a history column called "Pieces of the Past" in 1982. Since then he has written more than 800 columns.

He has served on the Northern Kentucky History Committee of the 1988 Greater Cincinnati Bicentennial Celebration, and is working with the Kenton County Sesquicentennial Committee. He was the 1988 recipient of the Robert E Lee Award, which is presented annually in Kentucky by a coalition for excellence in writing about the Civil War period in the state.

Most recently for the 4th of July Parade in Ft. Thomas' theme for 2005 was the Legacy of our Past, Jim was the Parade Grand Marshall.

Many thanks to Jim for allowing the Campbell County Web Site to reprint some of his writings on Campbell County and her people. If you wish to purchase any of the books, you can order them through the Campbell County Historical Society.
