Henry and Ann Blagrave

 

Information comes from the family files at the Campbell County Historical & Genealogical Society in Alexandria

 

Henry Blagrave was born 1736 in Lunneberg Virginia, the son of Henry Blagrave & Mary Knewstep. He married his first wife, Elizabeth Stokes, there on 22 July 1856.  Henry and Elizabeth came into Mercer County by 1792 and she died in Mercer County February 1797.

An instrument of writing from Henry Blackgrave and Elizabeth Blackgrave, his wife, to their children, was acknowledged and ordered recorded.

He married his second wife Anne Kennedy Sutton, a widow on 2 Nov 1797 in Mercer Co KY.  They moved to Campbell County in 1799 and are listed on the 1800 tax list.  Some of the Anne Sutton's daughters came with her.

John Anderson, to Ann Sutton, with Josiah Grover as surety, February 3, 1798. Henry Blagrave and Ann Blagrave, his wife give consent for bride, wife stating that Ann Sutton is her daughter and is of age, same date, witnessed by Joseph Dicken and Mary Dicken.

Newport Court Order Book A, page 272, July 1801

Henry Blagrave having produced Testimonials that he is in regular communion with the Baptist society is therefore licensed to solemnize the rights of Matrimony, he having together with Joseph Dicken and John Roberts his securities acknowledged Bond as the law directs.

From Mercer County, Kentucky, Deed Book 5, page 535, 24 October 1805

Henry Blagrave, of Campbell Co., Kentucky, conveys to Harrison Blagrave, of Mercer Co., for $10 and love and good will which the said HENRY bears towards his son, HARRISON, he deeds his right, title, and claim to and in 150 acres in Campbell Co. on Pond Creek, a part of Anthony Walton White's survey of 7,000 acres and the place on which John Colvin formerly lived, and adjoining Esquire Grant and John Lipscomb. Also gives him a feather bed and furniture and ?12.

Signed: Henry Blagrave. Witnesses: Jeremiah Briscoe, John Durham, and Samuel Carr. Proved in Mercer Co. by witnesses Dec. 1805 and Jan. 1806 and recorded.

Probate: December 1, 1825 (note these daughters are from first marriage to --- Sutton)

On the motion of William Gosney, administrator of the estate of Ann Blagrave, deceased, It is ordered that Jonathan Carmack Esqr. Wm DeCoursey, William Clark & Thomas Stephens or any three of them being First sworn do settled with the said Gosney his administration of said estate and make report to Court.
