Death of Professor Henry Appel
 

Last night about 10 o'clock Prof. Henry Appel died at his residence on McArthur, with heart disease.  He had been a sufferer from the disease for two or three years, and of late has been greatly troubled with it.  He performed is duties in the school room, Monday and Tuesday but was forced to close Wednesday.

Wednesday night he had a very severe attack, from which he was feeling quite badly up to the time of his death.  Prof. Appel was born in Hamburg, Germany in May 1832 and was consequently a little over 49 years of age at the time of his death.  He has been in Newport for nearly twenty years and was quite well and favorably known.  He has occupied the position of principal of St. Johns school for five years and was holding the position at the time of his death.

He leaves a widow and five children to mourn his death.  Prof. Appel was a man of sterling merit and the community will sadly  mourn his death.  His funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon at 2'clock from the St. Johns Church.
