Death, never welcome, comes when its most shocking horror when
suddenly it strikes the young and hopeful. Thus it was yesterday evening when
the telegraph brought the unexpected news of the death of George W Jones Jr. in
Washington.
A few short weeks since he left home, honored with a naval appointment; in his early manhood perfect in form, healthy, genial, noble, generous, he was most beloved by those who knew him best. In the new climate of Washington he was attacked with malaria fever; so slight was his ailment that no one was uneasy. Even yesterday, letters were received from him, written in a cheerful spirit, received a few hours before his death.
He was twenty-four years of age, son of George W Jones Sr. of Cincinnati and great-grandson of General James Taylor of Newport and in him was unified the blood of of the old families well and respectfully known in Ohio and Kentucky. The death of the young man will be more sincerely mourned than in the three cities than of George W Jones jr. We tender our sympathies to his bereaved family.
