Court Order Book 5, page 276, 24 Jan 1848
A deed of Emancipation from Joseph Dicken Sr. to his Slave ELIJAH FIELDS duly acknowledged was produced to Court whereupon it is ordered that the Clerk of this Court issue to the said Elijah, who is ascertained to be of the following description; aged 26 years, 5 feet 7 or 9 inches high, very black.
A certificate of his freedom accordingly upon his giving bond with Security in the penalty of $500. Conditioned that the Said ELIJAH shall not become a charge upon any County in this Commonwealth and thereupon that the said Elijah with H K Rachford and Wm Griffey his Securities entered unto and acknowledged Bond accordingly which is approved by the Court.
