Another prominent figure in Campbell County medicine in the late 1800s and early 1900s was John Todd, son of John Todd and Maria Shaw and brother of Clara Todd Youtsey, wife of James Youtsey.  Born 27 Apr 1877 in Alexandria, Todd grew up in there and worked in his father's store before deciding to pursue a medical career. He attended the Ohio Medical College, from which he graduated in 1900.

He opened an office at 118 Sixth St., Newport, and later had his practice at 522 E. Sixth St. He was appointed Newport health officer in 1910 and served in that capacity for 27 years. He was also one of the organizers of the Newport Anti-Tuberculosis League, treasurer of Evergreen Cemetery and was on the medical staff at Speers Memorial Hospital for 38 years.

Outside medicine, he was also active in the Alexandria Fair Board, serving as its chairman, like his father had previously. Dr. Todd also was a director of American National Bank in Newport, doctor for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. and assistant doctor for the L&N Railroad.

He died on Oct. 21, 1941, at his home at Sixth and Park streets in Newport. He was 64 years old. Funeral services were held at his home. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery. He was survived by his wife, Jessie Ware Todd; a son, Jack Todd; and a daughter, Mrs. Hubbard Hood of Park Hills.

A Kentucky Times-Star editorial said Dr. Todd was an integral part of the community and among the best-known people in Campbell County.
