Kentucky was the first state where an effort was made to obtain a charter for a dental college by Dr. John Harris in 1836.  It was unsuccessful.  Dentists in Campbell County belonged to the Mississippi Valley Association and on August 12, 1844, Dr. William B Ross of Newport was elected secretary.

Ross was the first dentist to settle and practice in Campbell County.  After him was a man called Stringfellow.  In 1855 there was Dr. Jerome McFadden in Newport; in 1865 there was Dr. J Martin in Newport; in 1878 there was Dr. A B Jones of Newport; in 1895 were the following dentists:

The Kentucky Dental Association was founded in 1870, and the Northeastern Dental Society is composed of 11 Northern Kentucky counties and was founded in 1921.  The first dental college in the world was The Baltimore College of Dental Surgery in 1841, and the second was Cincinnati in 1845.
