NEWPORT

RARE DISEASE CAUSES DEATH-Birdie Nichols, aged 14, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Nichols, of 1127 Central avenue, died last evening from a disease which Dr. Herman diagnosed as cerebral tumor that affected the base of the brain.

The young lade, otherwise healthy, has been suffering untold agony for the past six months, from the tumor that firs attacked and destroyed the optic nerves, leaving her sightless and then slowly ate away the other nerve centers. The nerves were controlling the power of the locomotion were attacked.  At this point Miss Nichols could not longer retain her equilibrium when placed upon her feet. Then the nerves controlling her hearing succumbed and gradually the disease made such inroads that the brain action was entirely arrested and yesterday the grim specter of death put a merciful end to her sufferings.

The funeral will take place Friday afternoon with interment in at Evergreen Cemetery.
