Biggerstaff Family Bible

 

Contributed by Mrs. J M Thomas, of Derby Kansas. This bible was a gift from James M Thomas and was obtained from a second hand book store in Wichita Kansa, 2 Dec 1978.

A copy of this information is in the Biggerstaff family files at the Campbell County Historical & Genealogical Society in Alexandria.

 

This Bible was published in England in 1795 and was bound by C Hering in St Martins in London. The hand writing inside appears to be written by more than one person.

This Holy Bible was presented to W John Biggerstaff in 1800 by Rev Thomas Will, Baptist minister of Silver Street in Selina Co of Huntington. It was given W John Biggerstaff to his eldest son, Robert on the morning of his decease, 20 July 1806. He died in full hope of a joyful regeneration in the presence of his aforesaid son with these works always on his lips. "I know that my Redeemer liveth." He never lost a friend and never made an enemy."

Rob Biggerstaff, eldest son of John and Mary Biggerstaff, was born 23 Nov 1786 and married 5 May 1814 at Winslow in the County Burk, to Margaret, daughter of John and Elizabeth Gibbs, of Winslow Parrish. He died 17 Nov 1862 and Margaret died 21 Nov 1861.

Mary, daughter of above name Robert and Margaret, was born 24 Jan 1815, baptized in the Winslow Parrish Church and died 29 Sep 1838.

Ann born 21 Aug 1817 at Winslow and died Aug 1831 (no date)

John born 14 Jan 1819 at Thomas Bank in the Parish of George, Hanover Square; baptized on the 10 Feb 1819 at Parrish Church of St Margaret, Westminster and married Rebecca Gibbs 18 Apr 1868.

William born 25 Sep 1826; baptized at St Margaret’s as above; married Emma Herring (Henning) on 22 Nov 1857; He died 13 Sep 1868.
