Bullitt County Migrations: 
            from Frederick County MD

Below are "sightings" of many  people found on the  Frederick Co. MD to Bullitt Co. KY  (and surrounding areas) migration index.

The criteria for placing these here is fair certainty that the people below are part of a family who sent at least some members to north central Kentucky. 

It is hoped that they will provide help with some specifics about  time and place and who they seem to be with. 

The abstracts are placed in chronological order with annotated notes if I have something to add.

 24 Aug 1749
 

Mary Baldwin, d/o James Baldwin of Prince Georges Co. Province of Maryland to John Waters Junior of same for and in consideration of the sum of 15 pounds sterling hath bargained and sold a Tract of Land called Mothers Gift containing 400 acres lying and being in Frederick County adjoining the Patuxent River. signed Mary (X) Baldwin. wits: John Lamar Jr. and Tyler Baldwin. [Frederick Co. Deeds, Liber B p. 91]  


12 Jan 1750

 

Jacob Vertrees of Frederick Co. in the Province of Maryland, Farmer to Philip Henry Thomas of same.  That for and in Consideration of the sum of 60 pounds current money of the Province in hand paid doth grant Bargain and Sell all that tract or parcel of Land situate in the county afs’d called Perrys Lott on a branch of Tuscororo Creek containing 50 acres of land more or less.  Recorded 20 Jan 1756.  Wits: John Darnell & Charles DarnellCatherine, wife of Jacob Vertrees released dower right. 8 Nov  1751

John Friend of Frederick Co. to James Mackolum of East Jersey for and in consideration of one hundred Pounds Pensilvania money to him in hand paid hath given bargained and sold all that Tract of Land called Chasnutt Levell (?) lying in Frederick County between the mountains to Antietam containing 50 acres more or less.  Signed John (his mark) Friend.  Wits: Nath'l Wickham and William Reed.  Wife Elizabeth Friend releases dower right. [Frederick Co. Deeds, Liber B p. 470] [note: Nathaniel Wickham should be the brother-in-law of Samuel Pottenger of Pottenger's Creek settlement in Nelson Co.  John & Elizabeth are most likely John & Elizabeth (Banner) Friend whose children go to Hardin Co. KY]

27 Nov  1751

At the request of Edward Crow - John Evans, John Swan and Thomas Wells confess judgment to Edward Crow for the sum of fifteen shillings debt which sum was recovered by the said Edward Crow against John Evans on 17 Aug 1751 before Joseph Chapline.  Recording clerks were Joseph Chapline and Thomas Prather [Frederick Co. Deeds, Liber B p. 501]

16 Feb 1750

Charles Polke and Christian his wife of Frederick Co. Province of Maryland to William Hynes of Lancaster Co., Province of Pennsylvania for the consideration of the sum of four pounds current money of the Province of Maryland in hand paid have given granted bargained and sold all that Tract of Land called Polkes Meadows lying and being in Frederick Co. containing 100 acres standing on a hollow near Little Tonallaways about 1 mile from Potomack River.  Wits: Thos. Cresap and Martin Moran.    Recorded 20 Mar 1750  with more added 20 Mar 1750 as William Hynes had to pay the sum of 4 shillings as alienation fine on the land.  [Frederick Co. Deed Liber B p. 350]

 
9 Oct 1750

Thomas Cresap of Frederick Co. Province of Maryland, Gent. to William Gilleland of same, Yeoman, for and in consideration of the sum of Eighty five pounds all That parcell of Land by sundry Mutations and Alienations conveyed unto him the said Thomas Cresap by Thomas Hargis Sr. Containing 100 acres a Tract called Darlings Delight lying in the county afs'd being laid out for 225 acres.  Wits: Thomas Prather and Jarvis Houghman.  Recorded 19 Nov 1750  [Frederick Co. 17 Feb 1753

Samuel Pottinger of Prince Georges Co., Province of Maryland, planter to Robert Pottinger of same - for and in consideration of 25 pounds hath granted, bargained and sold part of a Tract of Land called Wickhams and Pottingers Discovery lying and being in Frederick Co. Wits: Mordc. Jacob and Thomas Williams - wife Eleanor Pottinger released dower right.  Recorded  13 Mar 1753 [Frederick Co. MD Deed Liber]

 
5 Apr 1753

Daniel Ashcraft of Frederick County, Province of Maryland, Farmer, to George Pack of same, farmer - for the sum of 35 pounds current money of Pensilvinia in hand paid doth bargain and sell his 30 acres of land being part of a Tract called shirthorn (?) bordering land of Robert Bridewell  near a small run by the Potomack river.  Witnessed by Daniel RawlingsElizabeth Ashcraft, wife of Daniel released her dower right.  Recorded by Thomas Prather.

 
24 Sep 1754

The accounts of Rachel Woodin, wife of John Woodin, lately called Rachel Gassaway, wife of John Gassaway, late of Frederick County, Deceased - people named in the accounts: Samuel Mansell, Jno. Kimbol, Sarah Mason, Samuel Hunter, Moses Harling, Philip Kins,   John Metcalf, Michael Jesserang, William Hall, Charles Pearl (paid by his Accountant to James Pearle for the Use of the said Charles Pearle), John Hammond, Christian Smith, Philip Howard, Thomas Beatty, Joseph Wood, Jno. Middaugh.

 
20 Aug 1767

John Wells Sr. of Frederick Co. MD, Planter to William Hall of Elk Ridge, Ann Arundel Co. Maryland, Merchant – for and in consideration of the sum of 40 pounds doth bargain and sell three Cows, three heifers, two calves,  nineteen (?) head of hogs, young and old, one sorrel Mare branded on the rear buttock with the Letter S and one young Black Horse branded on the shoulder .  (signed) John (X) Wells Senr.   Wits: David Lynn and Edward Gaither Junr.  [Frederick Co. MD Deeds Liber L p. 6]

 
14 Mar 1768

Michael Leavely of York Co., Province of Pennsylvania, Mason to Paul Beard of the county of Frederick, Province of Maryland - for and in consideration of the sum of seventeen pounds in hand paid hath bargained and sold all that Parcell of land called Manager being in Frederick County bounded by George Stump's land containing 67 acres and a half.  Recorded 16 Mar 1768.  Wits: Wm. Blair and Abraham Hayter (?).  Barbary, wife of Michael Leavely released her dower right with Wm. Blair and Jos. Wood witnesses.  (Chris Edelen was the recording clerk)  [Frederick Co.
