KYBoyd Mailing List
Welcome to the companion web page for the KYBoyd Mailing List. We hope you will find here the information you will need to subscribe, unsubscribe, and use the mailing list in a way that will provide the best benefit for yourself and the other members of the list.
The KYBoyd Mailing List is an e-mail list for genealogical research in the Boyd County, Kentucky area. It is for more in-depth discussions and longer posts than you might see on the query board. The query board is a good place for posting a note that a large number of people might see over a long period of time. The Mailing List, however, is a method of assuring that a dedicated group of list members will be sure to receive your note as an e-mail. It then provides a platform for the exchange of ideas, information and comments, all by e-mail. The Mailing List is spam and virus-free, because all posts are filtered through Rootsweb servers. If you use web based mail, both the query board and the Mailing List can be accessed on the WWW through your web browser, but the Mailing List needs only your e-mail program.
The Mailing List operates in two forms, the Mail mode, and the Digest mode.
Mail mode:
KYBoyd-L is for individual messages to be delivered to your e-mail address. As each subscriber to the list sends messages to the list address, you will receive a copy of the message.
To subscribe send an e-mail message to: [email protected] with one word in the body of the message: subscribe
To unsubscribe send an e-mail message to: [email protected] with one word in the body of the message: unsubscribe
Digest mode:
KYBoyd-D is for a digest of several accumulated messages to be delivered to your email address. As each subscriber to the list sends messages to the list address, they are put into a digest to be delivered later. The digest is generated approximately once a day and delivered to digest subscribers. This option is handy for people who don't want multiple messages to accumulate in their mailbox.
To subscribe send an email message to: [email protected] with one word in the body of the message: subscribe
To unsubscribe send an email message to: [email protected] with one word in the body of the message: unsubscribe
How to Post
To post a message so everyone on the mailing list receives it, just send it to: [email protected] . It will then be sent to everyone in both mail and digest mode. You don't need to send it explicitly to both.
To reply to a message so that everyone on the mailing list receives it, select "Reply to All" in your software, otherwise your reply might go only to the poster of the message you are replying to. Be sure to check your To: and CC: addresses before you "Send".
