Surname: Longley

I am looking for the ancestors of John T Longley.  The information I have is that he was born in Boone County, KY in 1823.   By 1866 he was in Montana and spent the rest of his life there.  His obituary says:

John T Longley was born 1823 in Boone County, Kentucky and died June 4, 1909 in Melrose, Silver Bow, Montana.  He was buried in Glendale, Beachhead County MT on June 5, 1909. His obituary says, “Leaving home when he was yet a boy, he joined the army and was sent to Mexico. He was a veteran of the Mexican war and had hard service against the Indians in the early days crossing the plains.  He was a strong republican, cheerful and generous to a fault.  Mr. Longley was one of the pioneers of the state (of Montana), having come from California to Alder Gulch in 1863.  He was one of the charter members of the Masonic lodge of Bannack.  Annually, up to last fall, Mr. Longley always took the greatest pleasure in his fall hunting trip.  In the death of Mr. Longley, the people of Melrose and Silver Bow County feel that they have lost one of the most esteemed citizens.”   At the time of his death, his 92 year old sister was still living at the family home in Kentucky.

I am interested in his parents, sister, anything at all about his Kentucky roots.  Thank you, Mike Hubbard [email protected]

Query:    My cousin and I have been researching our genealogy which includes John F. Parker who was born between 1806 to 1810 in Virginia. It is hard to find his correct age because of the way it was reported on each Census from 1850 to 1880. We found his will at the Independence Kentucky Court House which shows he died around February 1892. We have been able to peace together a lot of information about his family, but have yet to find out who is father was. A little while ago, we found he lived in Boone County. He was on the 1840 census, and we found out he married a Matilda Powell in 1831, but she must have died because he married Susan C. Souther in Campbell County in 1837. She was married to John when the branch of our family started through their son, William Albert Parker. After 1840, they appear in Kenton County around the Grassy Creek area. They even devoted a partial of land to build Parkers Grove School No. 25 which can be found on a 1883 Atlas. Recently we found out that the school was intact until around 1970 when it was burned to the ground. I just noticed on the Boone County Kentucky GenWeb stories about Arthur B. Parker and Elijah Parker. I was wondering if these families could have been related to our John F. Parker. We were told by someone on ancestry.com (a member) that it was their opinion our John's father was Joseph Parker whose father was William Parker. There is a will on the internet for a William Parker, but he died in Smith County Tennessee. He had a son Joseph Parker, but that son was shown on the 1850 census in Tennessee, and the Jacob Parker in Boone County is shown on a separate census for Kentucky. So therefore, it cannot be the same person. I am not asking for someone to do research for us, but we have visited the Campbell County Genealogical Society and found some information on our family. We also shared information with them that we knew was factual. We would however, like to see if there is a way to speak with someone there regarding the Boone County history. We have found Virginia Land Grants from the Revolutionary War that show the 'Parker brothers' from that era buying land around the Big Bone Lick area. They probably owned that area at one time. We found records at the Boone County Courthouse that show this same land being sold around 1835 by a John Parker. Our relative was usually shown as 'John F.', but on the 1883 Atlas, he is shown as Jno Parker in Kenton County. Please let me know if we can communicate with someone in your agency regarding Boone County history. We would appreciate any help you can give us on this matter.

Query:    I am searching for the family which contained Samuel H. Craige, born in Ireland in 1776 and died in Rush County Indiana in 1865. I have reason to believe he lived in or near Boone County Kentucky in the 1790's, joined the army regulars in 1812 in Lexington Kentucky, and fought in the War of 1812, and moved to Hamilton Ohio in the 1820's to start his family. He later moved to Indiana in 1828 and died in Rush County Indiana in 1865. I believe he had a brother, John Craig, who may have died in 1812. The family moved westward because of an intense dislike of slavery. I need to know his father's name to further my research.
