Rev. A. M. Vardaman

I emailed the Burlington Baptist Church to ask for information of a preacher by the name of Vardiman and received the following response. I thought I'd pass along the information as it's a piece of Boone Co. History.

Rev. A. M. Vardaman wasn't my gggrandfather Peter as I had hoped, but his son Abraham. We have very little on Abraham so this added some new information to our History. The name Vardiman has variations of i, a, e after the d.

Joan Williams, Burlington baptist wrote:

Rev. A. M. Vardaman (this is the spelling we have) was pastor here 1880-1882. He was also pastor of Middle Creek Church at this time. He preached the annual sermon at the associational meeting. He was appointed to give the State Missions report, and asked for prayers and support for Dr. Warder, newly appointed Secretary of the State Missions Board. He urged the churches to give donations to remove existing debt of the board, and to give annual donations to be applied to missionary work in the destitute fields of our state.

• On motion at the association, A. M. Vardaman was appointed to write the history of Burlington Baptist Church.
• The Committee on Religious Exercise reported that on the night of September 8, 1880, A. M. Vardaman would preach at Decoursey M. E. Church.
• A. M. Vardaman was appointed messenger to Concord Association at White Run, Carroll County, on Tuesday after the first Saturday in August, 1881, and to Ten Mile Association at Mt. Zion, Grant County, on Wednesday before the first Saturday in September, 1881.
• He was chosen by private ballot to preach a sermon on missions at the next annual meeting of the association to be held at Sand Run Church on Wednesday after the first Saturday in September, 1881.
• A Sunday school convention was held at Burlington in October, 1879. At this time the Sunday school was organized at Burlington Baptist Church.

This is all the information I could find on him and was taken from a booklet we published on the occasion of our 150th anniversary in 1992.
