WILSON, Richard

Richard "Fiddlin' Dick' Wilson, played fiddle, liked antiques

Richard ''Fiddlin' Dick'' Wilson lived a life as colorful as his name.

Mr. Wilson restored antique vehicles and buggies. He collected antique guns. He played the fiddle and banjo and was known to sing whether he was ill or well.

In 1986, Mr. Wilson kept his fiddle under his hospital bed after injuring his foot. ''I play for the nurses when they ask me and have time,'' Mr. Wilson said during an interview.

Mr. Wilson, 69, of Warsaw, died Tuesday at Gallatin County Health Care Center in Warsaw. He was a retired auto parts retailer and a member of the National Muzzle Loader and Rifle Association.

Mr. Wilson loved being outdoors and spending time with friends and neighbors. Although he had health problems, he refused to be cooped up in a hospital unless he had to.

''I'd sure like to get out of here,'' Mr. Wilson said during one hospital stay. ''This sure isn't any place for me.''

Survivors include his wife, Rena Banks Wilson; a son, Ronnie Wilson of Wilmington, Ohio; a foster son, Elvis Banks of Tennessee; daughters, Roberta Waugh of Verona and Rita Jarvis of Pasadena, Texas; brothers, Pat Wilson, Billy Wilson and Donnie Wilson, all of Mount Sterling, and Kaiser Wilson of Verona; and sisters, Esther Oliver of Verona, Devonia Vance, Marlene Farris and Brenda Lockhart, all of Mount Sterling.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery, Verona. Memorials are suggested to charity.
