As a comment: Catharine Caroline (nee
Cheatham) Maloney, wife of Delaware P.
Maloney, later of Henderson Co., KY,
must have given (or sold) this slave to
her sister Nancy Cheatham, who later
became Mrs. George Negley.

Know all men by these presents that I
Eleazar Cheatham of the County of
Lunenburg and State of Virginia for and
in consideration of the love
and affection which I have for my
daughter Catharine Caroline Malony wife
of Delaware P.
Malony of the same county, also in order
to contribute to the support of my said
daughter, I have lent unto her the said
Catharine Caroline Malony the following
property to wit one Negro Girl named
Mary Ann about nine or ten years
of age, one bed, bedstead and furniture
marked E.C. one dozen plates and four
dishes and half dozen rush bottom chairs
– To Have and To Hold the said slaves
and other property, free of hire, but
during my pleasure only hereby
declaring that the possession of the
said slave and other property by
the said Catharine Caroline Malony is
under a loan from me, that I may take
possession of the said Slaves, and other
property and the future increase of the
said
slave whensoever I please, and that t..
to all intents and purposes my property

the County Court of Charlotte the 5 day

of loan from Eleazer Cheatham to
Catharine Caroline Malony with all the
certificates thereon was this day truly
recorded in my office – Witness my hand

NANCY O. CHEATHAM. Second wife of George
Negley, she had no children. Her 1851 will
C-112, Henderson Co., KY names her brother
Eleazar Cheatham and her sister Catharine
Maloney and two nieces, Elvira Maloney and
Martha Ann Maloney. Her sister was
Catherine Maloney (nee Cheatham), wife of
Delaware Maloney, and her brother was
Eleazar Cheatham. They were originally of
Lunenburg Co., VA, as discovered recently in
a Henderson Co. deed.
Of interest is Nancy (Cheatham)
Negley's will dated 1851, Will Bk C-112:
"In the name of God Amen I Nancy O. Negley
do declare this to be my last Will and
Testament hereby revoking all others. 1st,
I will my negro girl named Virginia to my
beloved sister Catharine C. Muloney
[Maloney]. Also my woman Mary to her
Catharine, she paying to Miles H. Cooksey
the one sixth part of her former valuation.
Also to said sister my buggy and all the
money coming to me except one hundred
dollars due from my brother Eliazer
Cheatham, which I bequeath to him. My bed
and bureau, also my spinning wheel to my
niece Elvira Maloney. My dressing box as a
Keepsake to niece Martha Ann Maloney."

Negley. Witnesses: F. W. Davis, J. S.
Priest. The will was proved Sept Ct 1851 (E
628-633).
