Bourbon County, Kentucky Deeds and Wills Containing the Names of Slaves

Paris, Kentucky, Bourbon County Courthouse, Deed Book O, Pp. 163 164                                                      

In a document dated 1819, Henry Mann is given possession of five slaves, Jordan, Joe, Tom, Jim, and Carra (no last names).  Prior to that, the slaves belonged to Conrad Humble, 1736/39?-1791.  The first three named slaves (Jordan, Joe, and Tom) also appear in the estate records of Uriah Humble, Conrad Humble’s son, in the next reference.

Paris, Kentucky, Bourbon County Courthouse, Will Book J, Pp. 483-486, Sales of Estate of Uriah Humble, 6 September 1833.  Jordan, Joe, Tom, Lee, and Paulina are named in the estate sale. “David Cline [buyer’s list] 1 Boy Jordan untill Christmas/Jn^o Fry 1 Boy Lee untill Christmas/Elizabeth Humble 1 Boy Tom until Christmas/Do [ditto] 1 Girl Paulina untill do/Conrad Humble [1800-?] 1 Boy Jo untill Christmas”

The above mentioned Uriah Humble was born about 1772 and died in 1833. The Humble family came to Kentucky from Rockingham Co., Virginia.  In both Virginia and Kentucky, allied family names included, Cain, Cummings/Cummins, David, Fry, Mock, Pugh Rankins,.
