Allen County Indenture of Apprenticeships

This Indenture made this _thirteenth_ day of ___March_ one thousand eight hundred and ___sixty-five__ between __BOB a Free boy of color who is 11 years old the 10th day of October 1865__________

by J.H. COLLINS, Clerk of the county court of Allen County, in the State of Kentucky, of one part, and ____GREEN B. WOODCOCK__of the other part;

Whereas, by an act of the General Assembly, the Judge of said Court is empowered to bind out orphans and poor children, whoch parents are incapable of bringing them up in moral courses, therefore the Court made the following order, to-wit:

On motion and at the request of G.B. WOODCOCK it is ordered that BOB a Free boy of color who was 11 years old the 10th day of Octr 1865 be bound as an apprentice to said G.B. WOODCOCK his former owner and a suitable person until he arrives to the age of 21 years to be taught the art and business of Farming and that the clerk of this county to be taught the art and business of Farming and that the clerk of this county prepare and enter unto suitable indenture with on behalf of said boy BOB ??? bound according to law

Now, therefore, this Indenture Witnesseth, that the said J.H. COLLINS, clerk of said Court, as above recited, hath put, place dna bound, and by these presents, doth put, place and bind the said ___Bob free boy of color__ apprentice to and under the said __G.B. Woodcock___ with _him_ to dwell, and _him_ to serve, in the condition, duty, and character of an apprentice, until the said __boy Bob___ shall arrive at the age of ___twenty one___ years, fully to be completed and ended--- that, during all the said period, the said ___boy Bob____shall faithfully serve the said __G.B. Woodcock__ master, in all lawful business, according to the best of _his__ wit and ability, and in all things honestly, orderly and obediently demeand and behave __himself__; and the said ___G.B. Woodcock___ doth for __himself__ heirs, executors, and administrators, covenant and agree with the said ___J.H. Collins__ that he, the said __G.B. Woodcock___ will teach the said __boy Bob__ the trade, art, and business of __Farming_ and will find, provide for, and allow to the said ___boy Bob_ sufficient diet, wearing apparel, washing, lodging, proper medical attention, and all other things usually allowed to apprentices by good and just masters, and will treat _him_ with humanity --- that he the said __G.B.Woodcock_will __at the end of the apprenticeship of said boy to give him a new, good, suit of clothes and pay him one hundred dollars; Provided however if the said Woodcock shall teach said boy to read and write then he shall not be bond to pay sd $100

This Indenture made this _ninth_ day of _April_ one thousand eight hundred and _sixty-six__ between __CAROLINE a free girl of color who was 12 years old the day of 1866____ by J.H. COLLINS, Clerk of the county court of Allen County, in the State of Kentucky, of one part, and __JAMES A. BRITE___ of the other part;

Whereas, by an act of the General Assembly, the Judge of said Court is empowered to bind out orphans and poor children, which parents are incapable of bringing them up in moral courses, therefore the Court made the following order, to-wit:

On motion and at the request of JAS. A. BRITE It is ordered that CAROLINE a free girl of color who was years old the day of 1866 be bound as an Apprentice to sd . BRITE who was the former owner and a suitable person until she arrives to the age of 18 years to be taught the art and business of Housewifery. And that the clerk of this county court prepare and enter into suitable Indenture with said BRITE in behalf of said girl

Now, therefore, this Indenture Witnesseth, that the said J.H. COLLINS, clerk of said Court, as above recited, hath put, place dna bound, and by these presents, doth put, place and bind the said __girl Caroline ___ apprentice to and under the said ___ Brite__ with _him_ to dwell, and __him _ to serve, in the condition, duty, and character of an apprentice, until the said Caroline___ shall arrive at the age of __Eighteen ___ years, fully to be completed and ended--- that, during all the said period, the said _girl Caroline__ shall faithfully serve the said __Brite as her__ master, in all lawful business, according to the best of __her_ wit and ability, and in all things honestly, orderly and obediently demean and behave ___herself__; and the said ___J.A.. Brite__ doth for __himself__ heirs, executors, and administrators, covenant and agree with the said __. Collins__ that he, the said __J.A. Brite__ will teach the said _Caroline__ the trade, art, and business of __Housewifery__ and will find, provide for, and allow to the said __girl Caroline___ sufficient diet, wearing apparel, washing, lodging, proper medical attention, and all other things usually allowed to apprentices by good and just masters, and will treat __her__ with humanity --- that he the said __J. A. Brite__will__ At the end of said apprenticeship of said girl Caroline to give her a new good suit of clothes and pay her fifty dollars: Provided however that of the sd Brite shall teach said Caroline to read & write then he shall not be bound to pay said $50

This Indenture made this _14th_ day of _August one thousand eight hundred and _sixty-six__ between __GEORGE ANN a free girl of color who 6 years old the day of May 1866____ by J.H. COLLINS, Clerk of the county court of Allen County, in the State of Kentucky, of one part, and __MARY A. BRUCE___ of the other part;

on motion and at the request of MARY J. BRUCE it is ordered that GEORGE ANN a free girl of color who was 6 years old the day of May 1866 be bound as an apprentice to said MARY J. BRUCE (her former owner and a suitable person) until she arrives to the age of eighteen years to be taught the art and business of House keeping. and that the clerk of this county prepare and enter into suitable Indenture with said MARY J. BRUCE in behalf of said girl GEORGE ANN conditioned according to law.

Now, therefore, this Indenture Witnesseth, that the said J.H. COLLINS, clerk of said Court, as above recited, hath put, place and bound, and by these presents, doth put, place and bind the said __George Ann ___ apprentice to and under the said _Mary J. Bruce__ with _her_ to dwell, and __her _ to serve, in the condition, duty, and character of an apprentice, until the said girl George Ann___ shall arrive at the age of __Eighteen ___ years, fully to be completed and ended--- that, during all the said period, the said _girl George Ann__ shall faithfully serve the said __Mary J. Burce mistress, in all lawful business, according to the best of __her_ wit and ability, and in all things honestly, orderly and obediently demean and behave ___herself__; and the said ___Mary J. Bruce__ doth for __herself___heirs, executors, and administrators, covenant and agree with the said __J.H. Collins__ that he, the said __Mary J. Bruce__ will teach the said _girl George Ann__ the trade, art, and business of __Housewifery__ and will find, provide for, and allow to the said __George Ann___ sufficient diet, wearing apparel, washing, lodging, proper medical attention, and all other things usually allowed to apprentices by good and just masters, and will treat __her__ with humanity --- that he the said __M.J. Bruce__will__ at the end the apprenticeship of said girl Geo Ann to give her a new good suit of clothes and pay her fifty dollars: Provided however if the said Mary J. Bruce shall teach said Caroline to read & write then she shall not be bound to pay sd $50

COLLINS, Clerk of the county court of Allen County, in the State of Kentucky, of one part, and __J A. BRITE__ of the other part;

On motion and at the request of J.A. BRITE it is ordered that HANNAH a Free girl of color who was 18 years old the 10th day of January 1866 be bound as an Apprentice to sd . BRITE who was the former owner and a suitable person until she arrives to the age of eighteen years to be taught the art and business of Housewifery. And that the said clerk of this county prepare and enter into suitable Indenture with sd BRITE in behalf of sd girl MARY (sic)

Now, therefore, this Indenture Witnesseth, that the said J.H. COLLINS, clerk of said Court, as above recited, hath put, place dna bound, and by these presents, doth put, place and bind the said __girl Hannah ___ appretice to and under the said ___ Brite__ with _him_ to dwell, and __him _ to serve, in the condition, duty, and character of an apprectice, until the said __girl Hannah___ shall arrive at the age of __Eighteen ___ years, fully to be completed and ended--- that, during all the said period, the said _girl Hannah__ shall faithfully serve the said __Brite as her__ master, in all lawful business, according to the best of __her_ wit and ability, and in all things honestly, orderly and obediently demean and behave ___herself__; and the said ___. Brite__ doth for __himself__ heirs, executors, and administrators, covenant and agree with the said __. Collins__ that he, the said __. This Indenture made this _ninth_ day of _April_ one thousand eight hundred and _sixty-six__ between __MARY a Free girl of color who was 16 years old the 26th day of Decr 1865____ by J.H. COLLINS, Clerk of the county court of Allen County, in the State of Kentucky, of one part, and __A.J. RICHEY__ of the other part;

On motion and at the request of A.J. RICHEY it is ordered that MARY a free girl be bound as an Apprentice to A.J. RICHEY who was the former owner & a suitable until she arrives to the age of Eighteen years to be taught the art and business of Housewifery and that the clerk of this county prepare and enter into suitable Indenture with said RICHEY in behalf of said boy (sic) conditioned according to law

Now, therefore, this Indenture Witnesseth, that the said J.H. COLLINS, clerk of said Court, as above recited, hath put, place dna bound, and by these presents, doth put, place and bind the said __Mary___ apprentice to and under the said ___ A.J. Richey__ with _him_ to dwell, and __him _ to serve, in the condition, duty, and character of an apprentice, until the said __girl Mary___ shall arrive at the age of __Eighteen ___ years, fully to be completed and ended--- that, during all the said period, the said _girl Mary__ shall faithfully serve the said __A.J. Richey__ master, in all lawful business, according to the best of __her_ wit and ability, and in all things honestly, orderly and obediently demean and behave ___herself__; and the said __A.J. Richey__ doth for __himself__ heirs, executors, and administrators, covenant and agree with the said __J.H. Collins__ that he, the said __Richey__ will teach the said __girl__ the trade, art, and business of __Housewifery__ and will find, provide for, and allow to the said __Mary___ sufficient diet, wearing apparel, washing, lodging, proper medical attention, and all other things usually allowed to apprentices by good and just masters, and will treat __her__ with humanity --- that he the said __Richey__will__ At the end of sd Apprenticeship of said girl to give her a new good suit of clothes and pay her fifty dollars: Provided however that is said Richey shall teach sd girl to read & write then he shall not be bound to pay sd $50

COLLINS, Clerk of the county court of Allen County, in the State of Kentucky, of one part, and __WM. A. BROWN___ of the other part;

On motion of WILLIAM A. BROWN and at the request of MARY J. BRUCE she being the former owner It is ordered that a free boy of color be bound an apprentice to said WM. A. BROWN who is a suitable person until he arrives to the age of twenty one years to be taught the art and business of Farming and that the clerk of the county prepare and enter into suitable Indenture with said BROWN in behalf of said boy SAM conditioned according to law.

_J.H. Collins__ that he, the said __. Brown__ will teach the said __boy Sam__ the trade, art, and business of _a Farmer__ and will find, provide for, and allow to the said __Sam___ sufficient diet, wearing apparel, washing, lodging, proper medical attention, and all other things usually allowed to apprentices by good and just masters, and will treat __him__ with humanity --- that he the said __W.A. Brown__ will __ at the end of the apprenticeship of said Boy Sam to give him a new good suit of clothes and pay him One Hundred dollars: Provided however that is said Brown shall teach said boy to read & write then he shall not be bound to pay said $100

COLLINS, Clerk of the county court of Allen County, in the State of Kentucky, of one part, and __JAS A. BRITE__ of the other part;

On motion and at the request of J.A. BRITE it is ordered that TAYLOR a Free boy of color who was 17 years old the 2d day of March 1866 be bound as an Apprentice to said J.A. BRITE his former and who is a suitable person until he arrives to the age of 21 years to be taught the art and business of farming And that the said clerk of this county prepare and enter into suitable indenture with sd Brite in behalf of sd boy TAYLOR conditioned according to law

Now, therefore, this Indenture Witnesseth, that the said J.H. COLLINS, clerk of said Court, as above recited, hath put, place and bound, and by these presents, doth put, place and bind the said __boy Taylor free boy of color___ apprentice to and under the said ___J.A. Brite__ with _him_ to dwell, and __him _ to serve, in the condition, duty, and character of an apprentice, until the said __Taylor___ shall arrive at the age of __Twenty one___ years, fully to be completed and ended--- that, during all the said period, the said _boy Taylor__ shall faithfully serve the said __James A. BRITE It is ordered that SIMON a free boy of color who was 8 years old the 14th day of July 1865 be bound as an apprentice to said BRITE who was the former owner and is a suitable person until he arrives to the age of 21 years to be taught the art and business of farming And that the clerk of the county court prepare and enter into suitable Indenture with said BRITE in behalf of said boy SIMON

Now, therefore, this Indenture Witnesseth, that the said J.H. This Indenture made this _8th_ day of _July_ one thousand eight hundred and _sixty-seven__ between _CAROLINE BELL GATEWOOD a free girl of color who was eleven years old the day of January 1867____ by J.H. COLLINS, Clerk of the county court of Allen County, in the State of Kentucky, of one part, and __A.S. WALKER___ of the other part;

On motion of A.S. WALKER and by the request & consent of DAVID CARPENTER a man of color It is ordered by the court that CAROLINE BELL GATEWOOD a free girl of color and daughter of said DAVID CARPNTER who was eleven years old the day of January 1867 be bound as an Apprentice to said A.S. WALKER who is a suitable person until she arrives to the age of eighteen years to be taught the art and business of Housekeeping in all its various branches. and that the clerk of the Court prepare and enter into suitable Indenture with said WALKER in behalf of said girl CAROLINE BELL conditioned according to law.

Now, therefore, this Indenture Witnesseth, that the said J.H. COLLINS, clerk of said Court, as above recited, hath put, place dna bound, and by these presents, doth put, place and bind the said __girl Caroline Bell ___ apprentice to and under the said _Walker__ with _him_ to dwell, and __him _ to serve, in the condition, duty, and character of an apprentice, until the said __girl Caroline Bell___ shall arrive at the age of __Eighteen ___ years, fully to be completed and ended--- that, during all the said period, the said _girl __ shall faithfully serve the said __Walker as her__ master, in all lawful business, according to the best of __her_ wit and ability, and in all things honestly, orderly and obediently demean and behave ___herself__; and the said ___Walker__ doth for __himself__ heirs, executors, and administrators, covenant and agree with the said __. Collins__ that he, the said __ Walker__ will teach the said __girl__ the trade, art, and business of __Housekeeping__ and will find, provide for, and allow to the said __girl ___ sufficient diet, wearing apparel, washing, lodging, proper medical attention, and all other things usually allowed to apprentices by good and just masters, and will treat __her__ with humanity --- that he the said __Walker__will__ at the end of the Apprenticeship of said girl to give her a new good suit of clothes and pay her fifty dollars: Provided however that is sd Brite shall teach said girl to read & write then he shall not be bound to pay said $50

This Indenture made this _14th_ day of _March_ one thousand eight hundred and _seventy__ between _GEORGIA BRUCE a girl of color____ by J.H. COLLINS, Clerk of the county court of Allen County, in the State of Kentucky, of one part, and __ROBT D. HARRIS___ of the other part;

On motion of Plff LOW (?) SHELBY and it appearing to the satisfaction of the court the Deft W. ANDERSON had been duly summoned according to law appeared in court and gave his consent for the girl ?? BRUCE of color who is now living with him to be bound as an apprentice and the plff LOUISA SHELBY who claims the right to have said girl bound to her also came into court and abandoned that right; Wherefore it is ordered that GEO BRUCE a girl of color who was 9 years old the 15 day of June 1869 who has no relations living who are able to raise & support her be bound as an apprentice to ROBERT D. HARRIS who is a suitable person until she arrives to the age of 18 years to be taught the art and business of Housekeeping in all its various branches. and that the clerk of the Clerk prepare and enter into suitable Indenture with said Walker in behalf of said girl CAROLINE BELL conditioned according to law.

Now, therefore, this Indenture Witnesseth, that the said J.H. COLLINS, clerk of said Court, as above recited, hath put, place dna bound, and by these presents, doth put, place and bind the said __George Bruce___ apprentice to and under the said _Robt D. Harris__ with _him_ to dwell, and __& _ to serve, in the condition, duty, and character of an apprectice, until the said __minor___ shall arrive at the age of __Eighteen ___ years, fully to be completed and ended--- that, during all the said period, the said _minor Geo Bruce __ shall faithfully serve the said __Harris__ master, in all lawful business, according to the best of __her_ wit and ability, and in all things honestly, orderly and obediently demean and behave ___herself__; and the said ___Harris__ doth for __himself__ heirs, executors, and administrators, covenant and agree with the said __. Collins__ that he, the said __. Harris__ will teach the said __minor__ the trade, art, and business of __Housekeeping__ and will find, provide for, and allow to the said __minor ___ sufficient diet, wearing apparel, washing, lodging, proper medical attention, and all other things usually allowed to apprentices by good and just masters, and will treat __her__ with humanity --- that he the said __Harris__will__ at the end of the apprenticeship of the said minor to give her a new good suit of clothing suitable to the season and pay her Fifty dollars: Provided however that is said Harris shall teach said minor girl Geo. Bruce to read & write then he shall not be bound to pay said Fifty dollard

In witness whereof, the said __George Bruce__ by the said J.H. COLLINS, Clerk as aforesaid, and the said ___R.D. Harris__ have hereunto set their hands and seals, on the day and year first above written

I GEORGE BRUCE of col. being the same girl that was bound to R.D. HARRIS on the 14th day of March 1870 and I having at this time Removed & now living with other persons & Said R.D. HARRIS and my Self has this day Settled & he has paid me the Entire amount that he agreed for his obligation to me and I herby Release Said R.D. HARRIS in full from this bond to me that is recorded in this book on page 47 and this is his Receipt an my acknow to the Settlement of all obligations whatever this May 2n 1879

This Indenture made this _20th_ day of ___November_ one thousand eight hundred and ___eighty-two__ between __NOAH T. BUSH a free boy of color by W.H. READ, Clerk of the county court of Allen County, in the State of Kentucky, of one part, and ____J.A. BRITE__of the other part;

On motion & by request of FRANCIS BUSH the Mother of NOAH T. BUSH a free boy of color and it appearing to the satisfaction of the court it is ordered that NOAH T. BUSH son of FRANCIS BUSH who is about 7 years old be bound as an apprentice to said J.A. BRITE who is a suitable person until he arrives to the age of 21 years to be taught the art and trade of Farming in all its various branches and that the clerk of this court prepare and enter unto suitable indenture with said BRITE in behalf of said boy NOAH T. BUSH conditioned according to law

Now, therefore, this Indenture Witnesseth, that the said W.H. Read, clerk of said Court, as above recited, hath put, place and bound, and by these presents, doth put, place and bind the said ___Noah T. Bush__ apprentice to and under the said __J.A. Brite___ with _him_ to dwell, and _is_ to serve, in the condition, duty, and character of an apprentice, until the said __Noah T. Bush___ shall arrive at the age of ___twenty one___ years, fully to be completed and ended--- that, during all the said period, the said ___Noah T. Bush____shall faithfully serve the said __J.A. Brite__ master, in all lawful business, according to the best of _his__ wit and ability, and in all things honestly, orderly and obediently demean and behave __himself__; and the said ___J.A. Brite___ doth for __himself__ heirs, executors, and administrators, covenant and agree with the said ___Noah T. Bush__ that he, the said __J.A. Brite___ will teach the said __Noah T. Bush__ the trade, art, and business of __Farming_ and will find, provide for, and allow to the said ___Noah T. Bush_ sufficient diet, wearing apparel, washing, lodging, proper medical attention, and all other things usually allowed to apprentices by good and just masters, and will treat _him_ with humanity --- that he the said __J.A. Brite_will __at the end of the apprenticeship of said boy N.T. Bush to give him a new, suit of clothing suitable to the season and pay him one hundred dollars; Provided however if the said Brite shall teach said boy Noah T to read and write then he shall not be bound to pay him the one hundred dollars

This Indenture made this _8th_ day of _February_ one thousand eight hundred and _sixty-nine__ between _AMANDA MANION a free girl of color ____ by J.H. COLLINS, Clerk of the county court of Allen County, in the State of Kentucky, of one part, and __THOMPSON MANION___ of the other part;

On motion and on the written consent of RICHD MANION of color filed in court. It is ordered by the court that AMANDA MANION who was three years old the day of October 1868. MARTHA MANION who was nine years old the day of April 1868, SIMON MANION who was seven years old the day of September 1868 all minor children of color who have no relatives living except RICHD MANION who consents for them to be thus bound able to raise and support them be bound as an Apprentice to said T MANION who was their former owner and a suitable person the Girls MARTHA & AMANDA until they arrive to the age of Eighteen years each to be taught the art and business of housekeeping in all its various branches and the boy SIMON until he arrives to the age of Twenty one years to be taught the art and mistery of Farming in all its various branches: and that the Clerk of this court prepare & enter into suitable Indentures with said MANION on behalf of said children conditioned according to law.

Now, therefore, this Indenture Witnesseth, that the said J.H. COLLINS, clerk of said Court, as above recited, hath put, place and bound, and by these presents, doth put, place and bind the said __Amanda Manion___ apprentice to and under the said _T. Manion__ with _him_ to dwell, and __him _ to serve, in the condition, duty, and character of an apprentice, until the said __Amanda___ shall arrive at the age of __Eighteen ___ years, fully to be completed and ended--- that, during all the said period, the said _Amanda Manion__ shall faithfully serve the said __T.Manion__ master, in all lawful business, according to the best of __her_ wit and ability, and in all things honestly, orderly and obediently demean and behave ___herself__; and the said ___T. Manion__ will teach the said __Amanda Manion__ the trade, art, and business of __housekeeping__ and will find, provide for, and allow to the said ___Amanda Manion___ sufficient diet, wearing apparel, washing, lodging, proper medical attention, and all other things usually allowed to apprentices by good and just masters, and will treat __her__ with humanity --- that he the said __T.Manion__will__ at the end of the Apprenticeship of said girl Amanda to give her a new good suit of clothes and pay her fifty dollars: Provided however that is said T, Manion shall teach said girl Amanda to read & write then he shall not be bound to pay said Fifty dollars

Received of T. MANION Fifty Dollars the amount in full due AMANDA MANION Girl of color so the apprentice of the said T. MANION by order of the Allen County Court made Feby 8th 1869 binding out the said MANDY and this payment is made by order of the Allen County Court made October 11, 1883 and this receipt shall operate and be a full payment and exemption to the said T. MANION from all claims whatever fo the said AMANDA MANION against him by reason of the sd apprenticeship

MANION her former owner and a suitable person until she arrives to the age of Eighteen years to be taught the art and mistery of Housekeeping in all its varities branches and that the clerk of this court prepare and enter unto suitable indentures with siad MANION

Now, therefore, this Indenture Witnesseth, that the said J.H. This Indenture made this _10th_ day of _December one thousand eight hundred and _Sixty-Six__ between __MELVINAH MOORE a free girl of color who years old the day of ____ by J.H. COLLINS, Clerk of the county court of Allen County, in the State of Kentucky, of one part, and _SIMPSON MOORE_of the other part;

on motion and at the request of SIMPSON MOORE it is ordered that Joseph aged years the day of 18 all negroes & children of color be bound as apprentices to said Simpson , who is a son of J.W. MOORE their former owner the said SIMPSON being a suitable person the boys JOSEPH and NEWTON until they arrive to the age fo 21 years to be taught the art and business of farming; And the girl MELVINAH until she arrive to the age of 18 years to be taught the art and business of House Keeping and that the clerk of the county court prepare and enter into suitable indenture with said MOORE on behalf of said children JOSEPH MELVINAH and NWTON conditioned according to law.

Now, therefore, this Indenture Witnesseth, that the said J.H. COLLINS, clerk of said Court, as above recited, hath put, place and bound, and by these presents, doth put, place and bind the said __Melvina Moore as an___ apprentice to and under the said _Moore__ with _him_ to dwell, and __him _ to serve, in the condition, duty, and character of an apprentice, until the said Melvinah Moore___ shall arrive at the age of __Eighteen ___ years, fully to be completed and ended--- that, during all the said period, the said _Melvinah__ shall faithfully serve the said __Moore as her, master in all lawful business, according to the best of __her_ wit and ability, and in all things honestly, orderly and obediently demean and behave ___herself__; and the said __Simpson Moore__ doth for __himself___heirs, executors, and administrators, covenant and agree with the said __J.H. COLLINS, Clerk of the county court of Allen County, in the State of Kentucky, of one part, and __GEO M. SETTLE___ of the other part;

On motion and at the request of the Plaintiff G.M. SETTLE who was the former owner of the defendent LOUISA S. SETTLE a woman of color and her children and the said defendant LOUIA having been duly summoned appeared in court and gave her consent for her children (who are of color) (vis) SARAH E. SETTLE aged 10 years, CHRISTOPHER SETTLE aged 8 years and ASA SETTLE aged 5 years be bound as apprentices to G.M. SETTLE their former owner and a suitable person the girl S.E. SETTLE until she arrives to the ages of 18 years to be taught the art and business of house keeping and the boys vs CHRISTOPHER and ASA SETTLE until they arrive to the age of 21 years to be taught the art and business of and that the clerk prepare and enter into suitable indentures with said SETTLE on behalf of sd Children vis SARAH E. , CHRISTOPHER and ASA conditioned according to law

On motion and at the request of G.M. SETTLE who being the former owner of LOUISA SETTLE a woman of color and her children and the said LOUISA having been duly summond appeard in court and gave her consent for her children who are of color (vis) SARAH E. SETTLE aged 10 years, CHRISTOPHER SETTLE aged 8 years and ASA SETTLE aged 5 years be bound as apprentices to said G.M. SETTLE (their former owner) and a suitable person the girl S.E.
