Dr. James Cope Patterson was born
18 June 1829 in Adair Co KY; died 1 February 1871 in Mason City, Mason,
IL.
He married 19 October 1846 in Sangamon
Co IL to Cecelia McCalley (born 5 August 1824 Keene Co NY or NH,
died 26 April 1917 Logan Co IL.)
He was the son of John Walker Patterson and Jean Ramsey of Louisa Co VA;
He was the grandson of Joseph M Patterson and Jean Walker (born 29 August 1772 VA, died 21 December 1810 Adair Co KY.
He was the great-grandson of William Patterson and Jane Culton.
James Cope Patterson started as a
wheelright and then studied medicine; finishing his training in Jacksonville
IL.
In 1857 he moved to Prairie Creek
IL; is buried at Swains Grove Cemetery in Mason Co IL.
He served as a Pvivate during the Civil War in Co C, Unit 85, IL, US Infantry and again as Surgeon in Company Headquarters.
